Dear Friends and Neighbors. Lombard is considering an ordinance that provides for the removal of the left turn restrictions on State Route 53 at Harrison Road and Charles Lane. York Township is also considering removal of the left turn restrictions at Route 53 and Madison. We have two issues against this ordinance. First --- In 2001, The Village of Lombard went to court to get a judge's approval to levy a special assessment on the 500 block of Harrison Road residents to fund improvement of the road. The improvement included turning restrictions of right turn in and right turn out only. This is often referred to as a pork chop. A vote to lift the restrictions would leave the residents of the 500 block of Harrison road with the assessment tax. The twenty-one residents would be paying over $126,000. Along with the heavy debt they would have very heavy westbound and eastbound traffic. The second issue is safety. At the May 20, 2004 Village board meeting, the Village President, William Mueller, confirmed the Village does not have a plan in place for safety. Prior to the turning restrictions, there were serious accidents on Route 53 between St. Charles Road and Wilson. If you feel the Village has a legal and moral obligation to continue the contract with the residents of the 500 block of Harrison road, please inform your District Trustee and/or President Mueller. If you feel lifting the left turn restrictions without a plan for safety in place is wrong, please inform your District Trustee and/or President Mueller. Dick Tross, our Trustee, supports our position. The Village Trustees will vote on this ordinance on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at the 7:30 p.m. meeting. Please voice your opinion by 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004.
We thank our supporters and request you give this information to at least 10 Lombard residents. |
